Use in Education: Could be used to set students a task of designing a space (e.g. hairdressing students designing a salon, sports students designing a fitness centre etc). The drawing tools take a bit of getting used to, and is no way near as sophisticated as bought drawing tools, but is web-based, and requires no down-loads, so can be used by students at home, in cybercafes, libraries etc.
Definition: Google Documents, are a collection of online, potentially collaborative files - mainly spreadsheets (see below) and word processing files. Google are in the process of creating a presentation addition (basically a Google version of PowerPoint)
Use in Education: Google Docs makes a convenient way for small groups of students to work on collaborative work, however they do require each person to have a Google account, and when you collaborate you need to know which email address they have used to create that Google account - this makes it difficult to use in a situation where the tutor wants to create documents to share with students, but can work when a few students set this up amongst themselves, or for small groups of tutors to work together.

Google Spreadsheets
Definition: A spreadsheet capability that is saved and accessed via the internet. It allows for multiple people to be able to view and edit the sheet.
Use in Education: if you are carrying out an experiment with students where they each have to collect data, which then gets collated as a class, then this can be an ideal tool - once all the data is collected, you can export the whole thing to Excel for example which then allows for more detailed analysis and graph plotting
Link to Example: Although not available yet - there are 2 features in the development stage (I am told) that I think will have a massive use in education. One is the ability for a Google Spreadsheet to produce Graphs - this will allow students to enter data and then see the graph change in response to the data that has been entered - very useful. The second feature on its way I hope is the ability to link from one Google Spreadsheet to another - the use of this, would be that you could create a sheet for say each student - where they enter data, you then have a master sheet which collates key data from each of the sheets. This could also be applied to creating simple voting tools, or group surveys.
Definition: A website powered by Google, which allows the public to upload video clips, for others to then view, download or embed.
Use in Education: A tutor could take some video footage (e.g. catering skills, hairdresing techniques) - upload them onto GoogleVideo, and all you need to do is give your students the URL that it generates - and the students have access to that footage. Or you could search for existing clips - if there is a clip that meets your needs, then link to it, saving you the time of creating your own
