URL

Definition: Acronym for "Universal Resource Locator", it is the unique address for any web page. Often made up by using the name of the organisation (e.g. http://www.cwc.ac.uk for City of Westminster College). URL needs to be typed into the browser address bar correctly for an address to be found, as many are similar. For example, http://www.smart.co.uk/ is a site connected with writing, films, modelling, etc and http://www.smart.com is the site of the Smart car manufacturer.

Use in Education: Give students url of particular sites so they can do a targeted webquest; pass on useful links to colleagues; invaluable for accurately sharing information on web sites.

Link to Example: http://ferl.becta.org.uk
