Definition: Web 2.0 refers to anything where the content of the website is not primarily created by the website owner but is created by the people accessing the site. Another term for this is social software.

Use in Education: Lots -this whole site is trying to demonstrate this

 

Weblogs Inc

Definition: Overwrite definition here

wiki

Definition: A web page that can be easily edited by its readers.

Use in Education: Collaborative group work, plannign a document, developing a combined resource to support learning

Wikipedia

Definition: Wikipedia, an online encyclopedia based on the unlikely notion that an entry can be added by any web user, and edited by any other, is a radical experiment in trust, and is a profound change in the dynamics of content creation!

Use in Education: Some people don't think that the use of Wikipedia should be encouraged, others think that it is great. Either way it is a resource that is highly used bt students. It is very easy to create a hyperlink to a Wikipedia entry within any teaching resource (PowerPoint presentation, Word, PowerPoint, Moodle etc...)

wikispaces

Definition: One of the free wiki providers, that uses a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) interface - so is very easy to use. It also has a built in discussion tool, which although not as powerful as a designated discussion facility, can help with the use of a wiki.

WordPress

Definition: A semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability

Use in Education: Students and staff can simply create personal or education focused blogs. Very easy to make great looking sites with little technical know how needed
